This website has been produced as part of a two year EU funded project, which finished at the end of December 2003. The project was funded through the Innovative Actions Arm of the European Regional Development Fund, and was also part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s TASK Programme – Towards A Sustainable Knowledge based region. Further details can be found at www.sustainableregions.net.

The main activities in the LANDMAP extension project were:

  • Assessing the quality and consistency of existing LANDMAP information, and how it is used in day-to-day land use decision-making.
  • Gathering and applying social and economic data, such as indices of deprivation and employment statistics, in parallel with LANDMAP Information. This was tested in twenty case studies, which included development control and land management decisions
  • Establishing a national website for LANDMAP Information and work with local partners, including the private sector to ensure the local, as well as the regional applicability of LANDMAP Information.
  • Examining best practice across the EU with regard to the use of GIS in regional policy and development.
