Before any LANDMAP dataset becomes available in the online database, it will have gone through a rigorous quality assurance process. The aim of this process is to ensure that the data meets an agreed standard of good practice, but also to ensure consistency across Wales.

An overall assessment is made of LANDMAP Information, checking for gaps and general consistency. In addition to this, the following areas of LANDMAP Information are sampled in detail:

• Data collection and data entry (desk and site surveys);
• Application of the LANDMAP hierarchical classification and the mapping of Aspect Areas; and
• Technical reporting and audit trail.
